Hapag-Lloyd

Hapag-Lloyd AG was created on September 1, 1970 as a result of the merger of the shipping lines Hamburg-Amerikanische Packetfahrt-Actien-Gesellschaft (Hapag) and Norddeutscher Lloyd (NDL). At that time, these two companies, founded in 1847 and 1857 respectively, had already been active in ocean shipping for over 110 years. 

Today Hapag-Lloyd focuses on global container liner shipping. With the acquisition of CP Ships in 2005, the company became one of the top five shipping companies in the world. The Hamburg-based company is present in more than 100 countries and about 500 sales offices  with regional headquarters in North Europe (Hamburg), South Europe (Genoa), North America (New York), Latin America (Tampa) and Asia (Singapore).

Hapag-Lloyd sets industry standards in terms of customer orientation, service and productivity. The company deploys more than 140 containerships featuring more than 460,000 TEU in capacity . The service network consists of nearly 90 services, primarily on the routes Europe-Asia, Europe-North America and North America-Asia and includes as well routes to Africa.  


Hapag-Lloyd Cruises is a top supplier of premium and luxury cruises in German-speaking countries.
