INTTRA Supports U.S. Customs Container Security Initiative
November 25, 2002
Standardized documentation submission process minimizes supply chain costs and risk of non-compliance
Parsippany, NJ, USA - November 25, 2002 - INTTRA (www.inttra.com), the leading provider of business-to-business ocean freight transportation services, today announced portal enhancements designed to support those customers and carriers affected by the new U.S. Customs Container Security Initiative (CSI) regulations. The regulations, which are scheduled to take effect on December 2, will facilitate the detection of potential container security risks, and will require carriers and Non-Vessel Operating Common Carriers (NVOCCs) to file cargo declarations 24 hours prior to loading the container onto a U.S. bound vessel. Non-compliance may result in delayed shipments and added supply chain costs for shippers, forwarders, and carriers.
INTTRA is announcing workflow tools that streamline documentation-related business processes across its network of shippers, forwarders, and carriers. Beginning December 2, registered participants will be able to leverage INTTRA's integrated documentation process to support both CSI and shipping instruction requirements. Workflow messages and reports alert designated individuals regarding instructions and timing for CSI submission. Since INTTRA is already connected to participating carriers' back-end systems, documentation is transmitted reliably and without manual intervention or delay. Registered shippers, forwarders, and NVOCCs can access these features via INTTRA-ACT (web-hosted solution) or INTTRA-LINK (integrated solution), or through software providers connected to INTTRA. Workflow tools can be used for INTTRA carrier bookings, whether booked through INTTRA or directly with its carriers.
Ken Bloom, Chief Executive Officer of INTTRA, commented, "Over the past two years, we have worked closely with customers and carriers to set standards for the ocean transportation industry. This collaboration helps INTTRA stay focused on issues that are most important to shippers, forwarders, and carriers. INTTRA members are benefiting directly from INTTRA's ability to respond quickly to the U.S. Customs Container Security Initiative. We are pleased to take another solid step toward industry standardization by providing tools that enable shippers to identify bookings that require document submission for CSI compliance."
