Exel Gains Sea Freight Efficiencies with INTTRA
July 23, 2002
Freight forwarder selects industry portal for competitive advantage and to significantly increase value-added services
Parsippany, NJ and Copenhagen, Denmark - July 23, 2002 - INTTRA, Inc. (www.inttra.com), the leading provider of business-to-business ocean freight services, today announced that Exel (www.exel.com), the world leader in supply chain management solutions, has selected INTTRA for Web-based and integrated solutions to enhance its global sea freight operations with cost savings, improved customer service, and greater overall efficiencies. Exel, which controls the movement of nearly 440,000 ocean container shipments worldwide annually, intends to implement INTTRA services globally, along with developments in its own systems.
Exel is processing bookings via INTTRA-ACT, a Web-hosted portal solution that standardizes and supports door-to-door ocean transport services for shippers who book with one or more carriers. Booking confirmations and status messages are then consolidated by INTTRA and fed back to Exel via electronic data interchange (EDI) through INTTRA-LINK, a solution which connects the commercial and proprietary business systems of shippers, forwarders, and consignees to the network of INTTRA carriers.
Alan Boylan, Vice President of Global Sea Freight at Exel, said, "In the transaction-based part of our business, there is constant pressure to become more efficient, and INTTRA gives us that opportunity. INTTRA's technology provides a one-point platform to enhance our overall ongoing goal of improved efficiencies in our supply chain management offerings. This, in turn, enhances our transactional process flow, provides more accurate information while removing potential errors arising from multiple points of data entry, and brings measurable cost savings to our overall operations. In particular, our contract business stands to benefit significantly by booking through INTTRA as a result of the added value services that allow us to respond faster and more accurately to our customers."
Mr. Boylan continued, "INTTRA-ACT and INTTRA-LINK allow us to move more seamlessly into the electronic age of sea freight shipping in our booking relationships with carriers such as CMA-CGM and MSC. Since several of our carriers are already members of INTTRA's global logistics network, we have received strong support for our connection to INTTRA."
Exel's e-commerce strategy is to communicate electronically with customers, suppliers, and third parties such as customs and regulatory bodies, whenever possible. The company is leveraging INTTRA's solutions to automate booking and track and trace operations, and to handle more shipments without increasing its staff. Exel's sea freight is among its fastest growing service offerings, having grown nearly five-fold over the past four years.
Boylan concluded, "We believe that over time all bookings for all modes of transport will be made electronically. Traditional booking procedures are very labor intensive when relying on phone, fax, and email. With INTTRA, we can get all the information we need from one source. Quite simply, this will help us to distance ourselves from the competition by improving the time in which we can service our customers."
Henrik Dam Larsen, General Manager INTTRA Europe, said, "Exel is a leader in supply chain management services and we are pleased that the company has selected INTTRA as its partner in ocean transportation. INTTRA shares Exel's commitment to enable all supply chain partners to interact seamlessly through the delivery of efficient and transparent solutions. We are excited that Exel has embraced INTTRA, and we are proud to have Exel as a customer."
INTTRA offers a standardized ocean logistics execution platform to shippers, consignees, and logistics providers around the world and is sponsored by many of the world's leading ocean carriers. INTTRA is utilized globally and has managed more than 336,000 bookings and 2.5 million container events since its inception.
