INTTRA and P&I Clubs Finalize Terms
Parsippany, N.J., June 19, 2006 - In a breakthrough to creating an industry standard for remote printing of Bills of Lading, INTTRA today announced the approval of a standardized legal agreement required by INTTRA and its carrier members to print images of Bills of Lading via INTTRA’s web portal.
“Until now, customers needed to follow a separate approval process and sign separate legal agreements with each and every carrier in order to enable remote Bill of Lading printing,” according to David Burns, INTTRA’s Product Manager for Documentation Products.
“It is not unusual for carrier Bill of Lading print agreements to exceed 30 pages, with each agreement containing different terms and conditions. Customers who work with many different carriers face a daunting task when it comes to remote Bill of Lading printing,” he added.
INTTRA, the world’s largest e-commerce platform for the ocean freight industry, has worked with its carrier members and with helpful input from the International Group of Protection & Indemnity Clubs for over a year in developing a common set of legal terms and conditions to support remote Bill of Lading printing.
“We thank our participating carriers and the International Group for their hard work and cooperation,” said Eric Winston, INTTRA General Counsel. He further added, “Without their valuable input INTTRA could not have achieved this important milestone in legal agreement standardization.”
Henry Pfeiff, Director of Corporate Services for Hamburg Süd, one of INTTRA’s carrier members stated, “We are very pleased with the thorough review process and close cooperation among INTTRA, participating carriers and the constructive contribution from our insurance clubs. As a result of this thorough process, we are confident that the necessary legal and insurance protections are in place to support remote printing of carrier Bills of Lading.”
Added Kim Chalmers Rasmussen, General Manager, Legal and Corporate Affairs for Maersk Line and another INTTRA carrier member, “It is pleasing indeed that remote printing of Bills of Lading can now be offered to INTTRA customers under a single set of carrier terms and conditions. This is another instance of standardization within e-commerce intended to benefit the customers.”
