INTTRA Desktop Growth Booming in India

November 06, 2006

Mumbai, India, November 6, 2006 – INTTRA’s e-commerce Desktop solution is taking off in India with over 100 percent growth since the beginning of 2006, reflecting solid growth in one of Asia’s largest economies.

INTTRA is the largest e-commerce platform for the ocean industry with 22 of the world’s largest ocean carriers in its network, representing 61 percent of the ocean freight capacity among the world’s top carriers.

India is INTTRA’s fourth largest market in INTTRA’s Asia-Pacific region, according to Andy Barrons, Vice President of Marketing for INTTRA.  Adoption of both INTTRA’s online and offline Desktop solution, which allows seamless connection to the INTTRA platform and promotes e-commerce use, reflects India’s solid growth.  The Indian government recently reported that the Indian GDP (gross domestic product) grew almost 9 percent from 2005 to the first quarter of 2006.

Barrons pointed out a large percentage of INTTRA’s global growth is coming from emerging markets.  He cites the fact that INTTRA offers low-cost access to advanced technology as a key driver to e-commerce growth in countries like India.  “If you’re a shipper in India and you get INTTRA Desktop that provides you shipping instructions and bookings electronically.  You don't need much technology or staff training to adopt it.  It’s very simple access,” he said.

“From an e-commerce perspective India comprises many medium-size forwarders in addition to the larger international logistics providers who all manage the export activities on behalf of manufacturers.  Being able to extend e-commerce capabilities to these companies adds significant efficiencies to all,” said Paul Stephen, Managing Director, INTTRA Asia-Pacific region.

Added Ram Kalvakuntla, Regional Sales Director, South Asia, INTTRA Indian Ocean region, “INTTRA Desktop is our fastest growing and most popular product in India, being widely used by a large number of exporters and forwarders.  To support our large customer base in South Asia we believe that a high level of coordination and active engagement is needed locally from INTTRA to ensure customer satisfaction.”
