UCA for Shipping Instructions drives efficiency and standardization in the global shipping industry
Parsippany, NJ, March 12, 2007 - INTTRA today announced the roll-out of Universal Carrier Access for INTTRA-Link customers (UCA Link), which will bring increased efficiencies for shippers, forwarders and their carriers around the world. This roll-out follows the successful launch of UCA for INTTRA Desktop customers last September.
INTTRA is the largest e-commerce platform for the ocean industry enabling all shippers and forwarders to reach all carriers, including those that are not members of INTTRA’s connected network. With 23 of the world’s largest ocean carriers as member carriers, INTTRA initiates more than 150,000 container orders a week and originates over $11 billion worth of ocean freight each year.
With UCA Link, shippers and forwarders connect to any carrier or NVOCC worldwide through one standard EDIFACT or XML connection. Besides streamlining the process and improving efficiency, UCA Link customers monitor and track all their shipping instructions in one place. Carriers who are not INTTRA members receive electronic shipping instruction data in INTTRA’s industry-standard, PDF format. It’s a simple way for all parties to realize the benefits of e-commerce and standardization.
“Many shippers and forwarders incur high costs by maintaining separate processes and separate data connections with each of their carriers. With UCA Link from INTTRA, customers can save time and resources by sending shipping instructions using one standard process. INTTRA eliminates the need for separate processes or separate connections with each carrier,” said David Burns, INTTRA’s Product Manager for Documentation Products.
“And by offering a single EDIFACT or XML connection to all carriers via UCA Link, INTTRA delivers further operational efficiencies for our shippers and forwarders and increased standardization for ocean carriers seeking to expand the use of e-commerce,” added Burns.
“UCA Link accelerates the adoption of e-commerce for the industry, and represents our continued commitment to enable all shippers and forwarders to reach all their carriers using one global industry platform,” said Michael Nielsen, INTTRA’s SVP of Global Commercial Sales.
