INTTRA Customers Gain Efficiency from Universal Carrier Access:
Streamlined Processes and Connections to All Carriers
Parsippany, NJ, April 30, 2007 – INTTRA customers from Europe to China are experiencing significant efficiency gains from Universal Carrier Access for INTTRA-Link customers (UCA Link), launched in March.
INTTRA is the largest e-commerce platform for the ocean industry enabling shippers and forwarders to reach all carriers, including those that are not members of INTTRA’s connected network. With 23 of the world’s largest ocean carriers as member carriers, INTTRA initiates more than 175,000 container orders a week and originates over $11 billion worth of ocean freight each year.
With UCA Link, INTTRA enables EDI–capable shippers and forwarders to reach all carriers with one process. Shippers or forwarders transmit shipping instructions to any carrier or NVOCC via a single EDIFACT or XML connection. All carriers - INTTRA members as well as carriers not connected to the INTTRA network - receive shipping instructions in a common, industry-standard format.
Warrant Group, a leading European forwarder handling significant container volumes with many carriers, finds that UCA Link helps to standardize shipping instructions procedures. “With UCA Link, we follow one shipping instruction process for all carriers, increasing our efficiency. Previously, we followed different procedures depending on carrier capabilities - some carriers accepted EDI, whereas others relied on fax or email,” said David Roff, Warrant Group’s IT Manager, based in the United Kingdom.
“In addition, with INTTRA, we track date and time of transmission for all shipping instructions in one place, enabling us to verify that shipping instructions were transmitted prior to cutoff,” Roff added.
Also reaping immediate benefits of one process for all their carriers is Evonne Yang, Xiamen Greating’s Documentation Officer, located in Xiamen, China. “Now, with UCA Link, we transmit shipping instructions to all our carriers with one EDI connection - no more faxes! That means no more missing shipping instructions, better quality Bills of Lading and fewer amendments for all our carriers, whether they are in the INTTRA network or not. And, our carriers benefit because they receive shipping instructions in a common, industry-standard format.”
“The success of UCA Link for customers like Warrant Group and Xiamen Greating illustrates the value of INTTRA’s efforts to standardize and streamline the documentation process for the entire industry - shippers, forwarders and carriers,” said David Burns, INTTRA’s Product Manager for Documentation Products.
