INTTRA Bike Team to Ride in Tour Pour La Mer to Raise Money for the Mission to Seafarers
Parsippany, New Jersey, September 12, 2007 – Twenty volunteers from INTTRA, a global e-commerce company serving the ocean shipping industry, hope to raise over $30,000 when they saddle up to ride in The Tour Pour La Mer, a 100-mile tour to support the Mission to Seafarers. The Mission’s goal is to raise funds to ensure that seafarers in ports around the world have access to help and support in emergencies, bereavement or work-related difficulties.
“We feel that we are very fortunate to be serving the shipping industry. This bike ride gives us the chance to give something back to those that work on ships around the world,” said Ian Catley, INTTRA’s bike team captain and Director, Carrier Account Management. “The Tour Pour La Mer, organized by shipping industry executives, will benefit the important work of The Mission to Seafarers – to the tune of over $400,000 and bring awareness and visibility to the people on the ships that we all depend on to keep global trade flowing.”
Andy Barrons, INTTRA’s Vice President of Marketing, said “Many people don’t realize how hard and isolated life can be for a seafarer, working away from their family and friends for long periods of time.”
“The Mission to Seafarers is thrilled that INTTRA will be supporting us by taking part in Tour Pour La Mer,” said Director of Fundraising, Carol Taylor. “It is wonderful to see so many in the industry coming together from all over the world to support our invaluable work with seafarers - on whom all of us rely so heavily. The monies so generously donated by our participants will ensure that we continue to be at the forefront of seafarer welfare provision.”
On September 28th, the INTTRA team will assemble in England with 300 other riders from the shipping industry, to make the 100-mile, one-day journey. The route starts in Southampton, one of the UK’s largest ports and takes riders on a route through the beautiful and unspoiled countryside of the New Forest and circles back to finish in Southampton.
“It’s been quite an exercise in training and logistics as we have a very international team with members coming from Copenhagen, Hong Kong, Mumbai, New Jersey and Miami. Everyone has been training hard, but the first time the team will be together is the day before the race. To keep cost to a minimum we are traveling light and just taking our essential biking gear and then renting bikes in England,” said Catley.
To raise money, the team has turned to colleagues, family, friends and companies for support. The funds raised this year will add to the $20,000 raised during INTTRA’s last participation in the Tour Pour La Mer the previous year. “We started with a goal to raise a donation of $30,000 and we are close to our target. We are proud to be taking part in this event and to have received such generous support. It’s great to see that we can make a difference,” continued Catley.
